안녕하세요.

첫눈이 내린다는 소설이 지나 본격적으로 한 겨울에 접어들었는지 기온이 많이 떨어졌는데요,

아틀라스에서 UW 프로그램 중 많은 한국 학생들이 관심을 갖고 있는 인턴쉽 프로그램에 대해 최근 따끈한 뉴스를 들려드리고자 합니다.

UW의 연수 과정 중 인턴쉽의 기회를 제공하는 BEIC 프로그램이 있습니다.

총 20주 과정(2 Qaurter)으로 BUSIP이나 FPM을 10주 먼저 공부한 후 BEIC를 수강할 수 있는데요. 이 과정은 두 번째 10주 과정에서 시애틀 주변의 local company에서 unpaid position에서 일을 하면서 weekly seminar를 참석하게 됩니다. 학생들이 많이 궁금해 하는 부분이 어떤 회사에서 인턴쉽을 하게 되는지인데요, 아래와 같이 인턴쉽 제공 회사로 시애틀에 있는 다양한 일반 기업과 비영리 기관들로 다양한 포지션과 분야에서 인턴쉽의 기회를 누릴 수 있을 것입니다.

학생들의 관심도에 따라 무역, 물류, 마케팅, 회계, 디자인, 법률, 공학분야, 교육, 인사관리 금융, 관광 및 Hospitality 등에 배정이 됩니다. UW의 이 프로그램에 약 500 개 이상의 Local 회사들이 있습니다.

학생들이 가능한 인턴쉽 회사들을 찾아서 지원 하고 싶은 경우 UW의 담당자에게 알리고 컨택하는 방법이 있습니다.

너무도 잘 아시겠지만, Microsoft, 보잉, 스타벅스, 아마존과 같은 유명한 대기업들은 급여를 주는 자체적으로 경쟁률이 치열한 인턴쉽 프로그램을 제공하고 있어 이 기업들로의 배정을 장담해 드릴 수 없다고 합니다.

UW의 BEIC의 프로그램은 F-1 학생비자로 참여하게 되기 때문에 인턴쉽을 하면서 Pay를 받는 것이 허용되지 않는다는 것을 아셔야 할 것입니다.

아래는 UW 인턴쉽 과정의 담당자가 해당 프로그램에 대해 간단하게 설명한 전문입니다.

"We place students in a wide variety of companies and non-profit organizations in the Seattle area, in all sorts of positions and fields, according to students’ interests: trade, logistics, marketing, accounting, design, legal field, engineering, education, HR, finance, tourism & hospitality, etc.  (We have a database with over 500 local companies!) The students are responsible for researching possible internship companies, and letting us know which ones they are interested in applying to.  One thing we cannot promise, however, is that students will get placed in the large, famous companies that Seattle is known for: Microsoft, Boeing, Starbucks, Amazon, etc.  These companies typically have their own internship programs (which are enormously competitive), and for which students get paid.  Because the students in our program are on international F-1 student visas, they are not allowed to get paid for their internships, and are thus not qualified for these large, famous companies."
